JAXA would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of you who sent us supporting messages for the KAGUYA and its project team since we started to request messages on July 17. We have received over 800 messages.
The KAGUYA is now preparing for regular observations in the lunar orbit. We will update you through the project site.

The launch of the SELenological and ENgineering Explorer "KAGUYA", which will open up the 21st century's new lunar exploration era, is fast approaching.


Nickname

The nickname for the lunar explorer SELENE, which was solicited from the general public, has been selected as the "KAGUYA."


Mission Mark

The mission logo of SELENE (KAGUYA) shows a symbolic drawing of the Earth (right) and the Moon, which is our exploration object (left,) with a figurative “S” in-between as an “S” for SELENE and SELENE’s mission profile from the Earth to the Moon. It was designed by a student of School of Art and Design, University of Tsukuba.

Overview of the "KAGUYA" (SELENE)


The Lunar explorer “KAGUYA” (SELENE) is the highest performing lunar probe since the Apollo program. It will try to get closer to the core of the mystery of the origin and evolution of the Moon, which could not be solved by the Apollo program and its 14 state-of-the-art observation instruments.



Overview of the H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 13


The "H-IIA2022" model of the H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 13 will launch the "KAGUYA" (SELENE).

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) provide Launch Services by H-IIA Launch Vehicle from this No. 13.
