SHIZUKU Special Site

Overview of Co-payload and Secondary Payloads

The following three satellites will be launched with the SHIZUKU by the H-IIA F21.
The H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 21 will be launched from Launch Pad 1 at the Yoshinobu Launch Complex, Tanegashima Space Center. The H-IIA will then fly over the Pacific Ocean while jettisoning the solid rocket boosters (SRB-As,) upper fairing, and the first stage vehicle.
After cutting off the second stage engine combustion, the KOMPSAT-3 will be separated first. Then, the lower fairing will be jettisoned to separate the SHIZUKU, and that will be followed by the SDS-4 and HORYU-2 separations.

Secondary Payloads

JAXA provides a launch and operation opportunity for small sub-satellites manufactured by private companies, universities, and other institutions by utilizing the excessive capability of our launch vehicle in order to use satellites for education as well as to foster human resources.

HORYU-2 / Kyushu Institute of Technology
- Power generation of 300 V in low orbit
- Demonstrating the deterioration of electric discharge control film
- On-orbit demonstration of electron-emitting film (ELF elements) for mitigating electric charging
- On-orbit verification of satellite surface potential meter that was developed based on terrestrial commercial technology
- Debris observation by debris censor
- On-orbit demonstration of the Surrey Camera Payload (SCAMP)
- Taking images by camera for regional contribution and providing educational materials for human resource development using satellite data
