The National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) has been adopting the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standards of the 9000 series as one of the measures to establish and improve NASDA's quality system since 1998, and has been applying the standards, one by one, to such fields as launch vehicle and satellites, development and operation of the International Space Station (ISS), and Testing.
Following these fields, the Headquarters of NASDA has currently obtained a third party certification, ISO 9001(2000 version).
With the certification of the Headquarters, NASDA completes the quality system except research fields.

The effectiveness of the quality management system should be continuously improved. In order to implement the quality policy, it should be taken into consideration that NASDA fosters "challenging spirits and professionalism" of the employees.
The ISO 9001: 2000 is applicable to the following headquarters' operations: Office of Space Utilization Systems, Office of Space Transportation Systems, Office of Satellite Technology, Research and Applications, and Office of Research and Development.

This is the international standard series related to the quality system regulated by the Technical Committee ISO/TC176 on Quality management and Quality assurance, mainly consisting of ISO 9001, ISO 9002, and ISO 9003.
The 1994 editions of ISO 9001,ISO 9002, and ISO 9003 standards are consolidated into the single ISO 9001: 2000 standard.
The contents are restructured into four sections "Management responsibility", "Resource management ", "Product Realization", and "Measurement, Analysis and Improvement".
The terminology, originally designed for the manufacturing industry, was also revised to be applicable in all sorts of business fields.
What emphasized here are as follows: top management commitment, emphasis on the process approach, continual improvement together with enhancing satisfaction for customers and other interested parties.
